We use your documents only to check your identity and your right to the registration, as the law requires before we make plates. They go straight to our own order and document system, not this website, and we keep copies with our record of the sale for 3 years, then delete them. See our privacy policy.

What you’ll need

One document from each of the two categories below. This is the same list as our Valid Documents page — photos and scans are both fine.

Proof of identity

Utility bill (gas, electricity or water) — dated within the last 6 months
Landline or home broadband bill — dated within the last 6 months
Bank or building society statement — dated within the last 6 months
Council Tax bill or rates bill — dated within the last 6 months
Driving licence (photocard, or a paper licence issued before 31 March 2000)
National Identity Card

Proof of entitlement

Vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
New keeper supplement (V5C/2 or V5C/2NI)
Certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI)
Retention document (V778)
Vehicle tax or SORN renewal reminder (V11 or V11NI)
Temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)
Number plate authorisation certificate with DVLA or DVSA stamp (V948) — valid for 30 working days from issue
Fleet, lease or hire company letter of authorisation quoting the V5C document reference number
eV948 Certificate of Authorisation — from the DVLA after an online assignment or retention; valid for 3 working days and usable once
