Paramount Plates makes road legal number plates in County Durham and delivers them free across the North East and the rest of the UK. Every plate is made to order to BS AU 145e by a DVLA registered number plate supplier. You design yours in the plate builder, then we post them to you or you collect them by appointment.

How ordering works
- Design. Choose your finish, shape, flag and border in the plate builder and see them on your registration in 3D.
- Send your documents. Upload phone photos of your ID and your right to the registration. The law requires us to check both.
- Delivery. Plates are typically dispatched within 1–2 working days once your documents are verified, then sent free by Royal Mail Tracked 48, which Royal Mail aims to deliver within two to three working days. Tracked 24 is £2.99 per order.
Collect from our County Durham workshop
Prefer to collect? You can pick your plates up from our workshop, by appointment only:
- Choose Pick up at checkout. Collection is free.
- Send your documents. Upload your ID and proof of entitlement as usual. We verify them, then make your plates.
- Book your time. When your plates are ready, we’ll email you a link to book a collection time. Choose collection only, or collection with fitting.
- Collect. Come at your booked time with your order number. Please don’t visit without a booking.
Fitting is £9.99 per plate, fixings included, and you pay on the day by cash or card. Rather we posted them? Delivery is free by Royal Mail Tracked 48.
Keeping your plates road legal
- What makes a plate legal. The BS AU 145e mark and the supplier’s name and postcode on the bottom edge, the standard font and spacing, and black characters on a white front or yellow rear reflective plate.
- Raised plates are legal. GOV.UK lists 3D (raised) characters among the things a plate can have, so our 3D gel and 4D acrylic finishes are road legal. Our guide to 3D and 4D plates covers the detail.
- Fines and MOTs. Driving with incorrectly displayed plates can mean a fine of up to £1,000, and your car will fail its MOT.
- Teesside. Cleveland Police recorded 175 offences or incidents involving illegally modified or non-compliant plates in 2024.
