Green-flash number plates for zero-emission vehicles
A green flash is the vertical green band at the left edge of a number plate. It is an optional identifier for a zero-emission vehicle, rather than a lettering style or a change to the registration itself.
Who can use a green flash?
Choose this option for an eligible zero-emission vehicle, such as a fully electric car. Petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles do not qualify simply because they have an electric motor or produce lower emissions. See GOV.UK number plate rules if you are unsure about eligibility.
- Green-flash surcharge: £2 per selected plate, or £4 for both.
- Available shapes: Standard and Short.
- Compatible lettering: all nine active finishes.
- Hex plates do not offer the green-flash band.
Choose the rest of your design
The flash is printed as part of the plate face. Pair it with flat Printed lettering, glossy gel or raised acrylic, then choose a plain edge or printed black border. A border adds £1 per plate and is arranged to leave the band clear.
For a Short plate, the band adds space at the left without squeezing the registration area. This can increase the finished width compared with the same Short plate without a flash. Enter your registration in the builder to compare the complete design.
A flash on one plate or a matched pair
Select a front, rear or pair. The matching controls let you apply the flash to both plates or choose each side independently. Its £2 price is an addition to the plate price; lettering, shape and other extras contribute to the final total. It is supplied with your plates without separate postage.
