Driving in Middlesbrough with legal plates

Number plates are something Teesside police check:

Illegal plates on Teesside. Cleveland Police recorded 175 offences or incidents involving illegally modified or non-compliant number plates in 2024, such as the wrong font, spacing or size, or ghost plates.
What makes a plate legal. The BS AU 145e mark and the supplier’s name and postcode on the bottom edge, the standard font and spacing, and black characters on a white front or yellow rear reflective plate.
A legal plate is read first time. Plates altered to dodge cameras are illegal; our guide to ghost plates explains the difference.
